Half Empty

Weather seasonal though all the signs
have not been good
nonetheless a large blue sky
not much of breeze or black
and I have shaken off my cold
and merited my Danish pastries from the store

As I emerge the spring is in my smile
at having once again defied
the years. I step out brightly
to my car when this old couple-
-who should I call old- ?
hunched and drab of dress are inching

down the slope she has a stick
and he supports -barely stronger but
full of tender care. The zephyr
rises and her twisted progress folds
thin legs halted by it's gentle freshness

And my heart is full of sorrow.
