Weather Report

Where are the winds of yesteryear
points and seasons Beaufort Scales
prevailing winds and roaring forties
storms and equinoctial gales
gone all gone with all the sailships
jet stream now has all the reasons

East Wind seldom blows but pain
winter snow and bleak spring rain
"North Wind doth blow and we shall have snow"
well maybe yes and maybe no
March-time "comes in like a lion"
is not somethng to rely on.

Equinoctials are in doubt
modern science rules them out

South Wind whispers flowered dresses
girls with summer-falling tresses
fields of meadowsweet and willow
gentle zephyrs grass a pillow
but reality intrudes
often it has different moods

One thing sure where we abide
West Wind means it's time to hide

West Wind blew in from the high Pennine passes
and ravaged my roses polite in the hedge
threw down the blackbirds' nest from the forsythia
slaughtered the nestlings before they could fledge
