The secret of love is
it hides all along
until often too late
it bursts into song
the song that it sings
has a glorious refrain
but the message it brings
is a withering pain for
what might have been really
we learn to our cost
cannot be seen clearly
until it is lost
nor is life
a practice run
for the things
we might have done
